Painting with friends

Hey all, I hope wherever you're at- you're staying warm!!  My poor husband actually had to fly into Chicago yesterday for a business meeting this week. One of his meetings have already been cancelled for tomorrow so he's going to try to fly home tonight. I cant believe the crazy cold temps going on there.
So last weekend was a super busy one. I had a birthday party last Friday and she wanted a group of us to go paint at one of the Painting with a Twist locations. That means we can drink wine while painting. This was my second time to attend a painting party and they really are sooo fun. As long as you know your limits , you wont be too disappointed. HAHA! I am terrible. I just don't have the skills to pull it off but I had fun doing it so I didn't care. I have the painting in my Goodwill bag in the garage as we speak.

Saturday morning, we went on a close breakfast run on the Harley and it was 35 degrees. We met a new couple at church a few weeks ago that also ride so we invited them to go with us.  We just rode a few miles away to the closest Cracker Barrel  which is always a great idea in my mind. I love their French toast!
Later in the day, I  volunteered at an event in Denton to represent Refuge for Women of North Texas that i'm a core volunteer for.  That was for a few hours and it was great! I want to talk more about that on separate post regarding Human Trafficking.  A guy was there who was a producer for an independent movie on that topic and it was being released that day. There was also a young lady there who spoke about being a survivor of Sex trafficking and how she was sold to the mob by her own father because he was a gambler.  It was heart breaking but also empowering to see her strength!
We had dinner with some friends later that evening who we haven't seen in a few months so that was nice.
Sunday, we went to church and after lunch, Todd rode the bike some more because it was a beautiful day but I went home and finished a book I was reading and took a nap.  It was a great weekend. This week, just focusing on work and taking care of my pups while Todd is out of town.  Kinda boring post today. LOL
I'll talk to ya soon!!

  1. I heard on the news today that Chicago is colder than Siberia and Antarctica! I bet your husband can't wait to get home!

Sounds like you had a fun and uplifting weekend!

    1. He JUST texted me and said his flight was cancelled. I was afraid that would happen. :(
It was a great weekend!! Hope yours was just as good.

  2. I have friends in Chicago who decided to take a sick day rather than brave the Antarctic weather. Texas is a much nicer place to be right now. Low key but fun weekends are awesome. LOL, I think I need to have one soon.

    1. Yes maam- everyone needs a low key but fun weekend!! I hope you see one very near in your future.
I don't like being hot but being that cold is just crazy like it is in Chicago!

  3. Hi, Holli!

I'm afraid you and I are going to have our first disagreement, dear friend, because I don't regard this post (or any of your posts) as "boring." :)

I never heard of painting parties or Painting with a Twist. What a great idea for a social outing with your lady friends! You all did a fine job with your paintings.

I applaud you for your volunteer work on behalf of the Refuge for Women of North Texas. It must have been very interesting to meet the producer of an indie film about Human Trafficking and inspiring to listen to a talk delivered by a survivor. How people can sell their own children into sex slavery is beyond me, but it happens, probably a lot more than we think.

I'm glad you are enjoying invigorating Harley rides on weekends when the weather cooperates.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Holli!

    1. I am willing to bet that there is a Painting with a twist ( or name similar) where you are. They're everywhere!! Its fun that you can bring your own wine. They supply the cups and wine opener.
the survivors story was just so intense. I am afraid that its much more common that people think regarding the Human Trafficking.
      Have a great week Shadester!!

  5. As long as the wine and company are good, who cares what the artwork looks like? And yours looks fine to me.
I hope hubs is back home in warmth now.
    Stay safe and well.

    1. Thanks Robyn, he made it home last night by the skin of his teeth!! His flight was cancelled from his original flight on AA and was able to go to other airport and get on Southwest. He got the last flight out.
You're sweet- I think my painting looks awful but it was very fun! perhaps I should have drank more wine. haha

  6. Boring post? Are you mad! You've told us about your poor love having to front the Chicago iciness (hope he made it home all right), you've told us about a paint party (I am so jealous--I haven't been able to leave my house much *other than to the hospital* these last few months, but worry not... just a few more weeks!), you went riding with that awesome face mask, AND if that wasn't enough, you also helped some of those who need it most these days. If that's your boring, my boring will probably kill you were you snore, lol!

This was an awesome post. I always love seeing friends doing things with friends or on their own... just being out. It's like I get to go with you.

    And I love your painting!

    1. Hmm, now that you put it that way maybe its not so boring. LOl I guess what I meant was that a gave rundown of my weekend and many could say- who cares! ha. Luckily my weekends aren't so jam packed but it was a good time. I pray for you daily and hope you can get out soon to someplace fun besides hospitals soon!! I mentioned above to Robyn that I think I should have drank more wine to not be so focused on the painting and maybe it would have turned out better. LOL
Come with me on my explorations anytime girlie!!

    1. You have to try it!! You can also go against the grain and do anything you want different but I don't know what i'm doing enough to do that.
The Refuge for women is the nonprofit charity I volunteer for and we have a huge gala coming up in April so I am about to get real busy.

  8. Your posts are always wonderful! This one will be my feature for Tuesdays with a Twist. I just LOVE those painting parties! The temps in Chicago have been just brutal. I texted a dear friend there (not that she needed me to) and asked her to please be safe. She said they were staying warm inside and her poor children were about to bounce off the walls! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
