Cute BLOG charm - you need it!

Hey everyone, this will be my only post this week.  My hubby leaves in the morning at 4am with our group heading to Sturgis and I'll be leaving on Friday. I'm flying into Rapid City, SD with layover in Denver.  Todd is packing most of my things with his bag so we've been busy getting our things together.  This is also the first time Jax has ever been away from home.  I'm getting his toenails clipped and filed today after work so he can be pretty.  We bathed him last night. The whole family is busy.
Have y'all heard of Origami Owl? They have what they call Living lockets that have charms inside. There are charms for pretty much all hobbies including scrapbooking and blogging. You can get a locket bracelet or wear it on a long necklace. There are various sizes of the locket and you can also choose from background circles.
I bought one a year ago that reflects my wedding. I got married at a winery so I have a wine glass, an M for my new last name, a cross and a wedding ring. I have  a circle that says Always behind my charms. I get a lot of compliments every time I wear it.  I have a friend that has a locket in memory of her husband. They have a charm that has that " in memory of".  She put his initial , his birthstone, and a few hobby charms. It's so pretty.
I'm in process now of putting another locket together for my hobbies.  I will have a motorcycle , a bone to represent Jax, a wine bottle, a background circle that says Love Life, and my BLOG charm. I've received many as gifts but a few i don't have yet. Can't wait to get it all put together.
To keep expenses down in my budget, I use a chain that I already have so that helps.  You can add slowly to collection or get a bunch at one time.
I heard that they had a blog charm so I reached out to my friend Erica. She sells them and is such a great person to deal with. I ordered 2 because one is a gift for someone - early birthday present.
The charm is in my marriage locket for now but that's temporary.  Look how cute!

All of you need to send her an email or go to website to get one.
 Email is : myowncharm@gmail.com
Her website is : myowncharm.origamiowl.com

I love my new blog charm and think you would like one too!

I would love to know what you would have in your locket.

Pray for safe travels on our trip and nice weather.  I'll catch you next week and tell you all about it.

Some randomness

So last week I got a crafty streak and spray painted some items that desperately needed a makeover.  I am so bad at taking Before pictures, you just have to believe from my After pics that it was an improvement.  I had 2 busts that were just grey and blah and now they are brighter.

The stand on wheels was really in bad shape with brown shelf and rusty legs.  I painted it silver to go in my kitchen. It holds my vintage bread box .

When I went to Waco last Sunday, I passed this little guy cruising on the highway shoulder. He actually stopped at the antique shop and handed out some religious flyers. He was very committed and was a veteran. I didn't get picture with him on his cart because he already got off before I grabbed my phone.

While browsing through the antique shop I came across this old birdcage. Y'all know my obsession with birdcages. Anyhoo.... This vintage cage on stand had price tag of 75$ but it was wrapped with black ducttape at the base, and inside the cage was an old dirtdobber nest and it had all this old plastic crap in it.  Now if you were asking 75 dollars for this, wouldn't you at least clean it out first and make it look presentable? I almost left a note saying so but I just shook my head and moved on.  Crazy!

I had to take a picture of this pin. It's of an Asian woman but has scary Michael Jackson nose.

I am pretty excited about my new hip purse I made for Sturgis.  It clips onto your belt loops and perfect when you ride.  I bought 2 purses at a thrift store- the one with fringe that will be the main part was 6$ and the 2nd purse was a small black one (2$) that I only bought for the clips.  I cut the strap off the beige one and cut the clips off the black one and asked my friend to sew the ends for me. I say I made it because it was my creation and I did all the cutting and had everything pinned- I just didn't do the sewing. Props to my friend though who doesn't question , she just sews where I ask.  The whole thing cost 8$ and I have a smaller one that I bought from Harley store that was 50$ ( on sale). It barely holds more than my license and lipgloss which is why I needed a slightly bigger one for my trip.
Haha! I only have the before picture and not the after but you get the idea.

My stepsister and 2 nieces are in town right now visiting and they came in for dads party. I went to visit after work on Monday and spent some time with them. We took Ava (18mos) for a walk and she went straight to the fence where some horses were. One of them was so sweet and very curious about Ava. My niece Paloma was with my stepmom down at the barn getting ready to ride. She got brand new boots that day that are black and silver zebra striped. So cute!

Tomorrow is my precious grandma (Nanny)'s birthday and she will be 87. Y'all I love her so much! I'm sending her some flowers today to be delivered tomorrow.
Todd's friends sister passed away last week and tomorrow is her memorial.  One of my coworkers lost his wife last week and hers was this past Monday.  On Facebook , there has been a lot of sadness and loss these last 2 weeks.
I pray that next week is more happier.

That's all I got today folks. What a strange post I know. Thanks for hanging in there. Have a wonderful and Blessed day!!

Hodgepodge this Wednesday

1. When I look at the sky I feel______so small.  To look at the moon and stars and know that we all can see it and share that together is so cool.  When I was traveling all the time, I loved looking out the window and flying through the clouds. They looked like soft pillows.

2. If you had to run for political office, which one would you run for? Do you have any real desire to actually do this? I do not have any desire to run for political office.  You cant please everyone but when you’re in office it seems as if you cant please anyone. If I had to, I would be vice-president so I could have my own projects but completely support and backup the Prez.

3. What scent makes you think of home? Cinnamon or vanilla.

4. How often do you take a step back to think about where you're headed in life? Do you need more or less self-reflection?  I do this often.  Many large “life events” have occurred in the last few years. My wedding, my Dad’s illness, Todd’s new job, my company merger, etc.  All these make me sit back and think about all the changes and my future.  I certainly don’t need more self-reflection so maybe a little less.

5. July is National Ice Cream Month...besides a cone, what's your favorite food item to top with ice cream? Um a nice warm brownie or peach cobbler. I cant choose between the two.

6. What might your autobiography be called?  Two Lungs and a Wedding.

7. Your least favorite mode of transportation? Why?  Bus. I rode a bus from Wyoming to Dallas when I was in college and it took FOREVER!! Way too many stops. Its stinky in the back. Seats are so uncomfortable.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  Not this weekend but next weekend I will be flying into Rapid City, South Dakota to join my husband and our group in Sturgis. I’m getting excited now that I am starting to feel better.  I need a vacation so bad!  I know this may sound silly but I have anxiety over leaving my puppy. He’s never spent the night without us since the day we got him last December.  He’s staying with some good friends of ours who have 2 big dogs and they love Jax.  He will have fun but I’m still nervous.   Oh and this is my 3rd post this week. What? I  know! I’m on a roll. HAHA.

And to leave this post with some music, this is silly but one of my favorite songs from the 90's.
Peaches from The Presidents of United States of America ( that's the name of group-lol).

My Makeup routine

Good morning and happy Tuesday!  I thought I would share my makeup routine this morning and its actually something I have never blogged about.  Its funny that I have 2 drawers full of make up but most of the time I stick with  my favorites.
First thing I do every morning before I start putting on makeup is apply moisturizer.  I have to admit I am not too loyal on one certain brand and I tend to use Neutrogena a lot with sunscreen.  Right now I am using Clinique dramatically different moisturizer.

I use 2 different concealers- one for my spots and one for under  my eyes.
I am seriously always breaking out with pimples and blackheads and its driving me crazy.  I spoke to a person working at Sephora a few years ago and she introduced me to Murad acne treatment concealer and I love it! I use it on my cheeks, nose and chin.

I use Cargo One Base foundation+ concealer for under my eyes. It doesn't take but a small dot under each eye and that's it. It blends in real well and you don't see creases and its not flaky after it dries.
My blush AND lipgloss are both Nars Orgasm. I am not a fan at all of the name but the color is perfect for my skintone. I have an olive complexion and it doesn't come across too pink, too orange, etc.  I wear the lipgloss every day and have for years and I always get compliments. I make sure I have an extra tube at home at all times so I don't run out.  They have a Super Orgasm blush and lipgloss but it has more of a gold glitter sparkle and isn't appropriate for my corporate office job during the day.

I only wear liquid eyeliner.  Pencil seems to smear for me minutes after I apply it.  I am hard on my eyes. I rub and touch my face too much during the day and my eyes water a lot. Liquid eyeliner stays on longer for me . Right now my favorite is by Makeup Forever and my second is Urban Decay. I wear Charcoal gray , the brown and I like the dark purple and navy blue. I normally don't buy black because all of them look dark anyway.
I am always on the hunt for the "perfect mascara" and so I switch it around a lot! Right not I am currently using 2 different ones that I go back and forth with.  Cargo Texas lash and Maybelline Rocket.  I have tried every mascara out there it seems. I have tiny stumps for eyelashes so I need at least 3 coats to look like I even have eyelashes.
So that's it. I can put my makeup on in about 15 minutes start to finish. I don't wear base all over and I don't know how to apply eye shadow. I only ever wore eye shadow back in high school and college when I was on dance teams and it had to be sky blue.  Yuck!   I wore it for my wedding but just a little bit.   One thing is I have in my purse, car, desk and nightstand is the EOS lip balm.  When i'm not wearing the Nars Lipgloss, I am addicted to these.  I even have Todd loving them and I buy them for all my friends and family so they can be aware of the awesomeness.

Hope yall have a great day and Oh today's post is my 302nd post.  I didn't realize 2 posts ago that it was my 300th.  Pretty cool!! Thanks so much for everyone and anyone that reads my blog. I am blessed!

Celebration of Life

Good morning y'all! Happy Monday. Hope you had a great weekend.  It was a crazy busy one for me. Friday night we went to our friends house for a backyard BBQ in Ft. Worth. It was all the gang that is going to Sturgis so we had fun planning and talking about the trip. They grilled hamburgers and turkey burgers. Everything was yummy. For dessert, Bobbie made cookie ice cream sandwiches.  Hello tasty goodness!
Saturday morning , Todd and I drove to a friends house to pick up some lawn equipment that we bought from them.  Like us, they recently got married and had 2 households to merge and doubles of many things. Yay for us because we got a nice mower and leaf blower and an edger.  When we got home and was unloading my truck, I felt something on my leg and when I looked down , my shoe was literally covered and crawling with ants. I screamed and pulled my sneaker off and threw it down the driveway.  I had stepped in a nasty ant bed that had crept up recently with the rain storms we had.  Todd was so sweet, he tried cleaning my shoe and then they got on his arms.  Yuck it was so awful! Both of us got away with just a few stings.
I had a project to make for dads party that I already committed to and told my stepmom I would make. I had a HUGE poster board the size of a large rug. I covered it with pictures in chronological order from when Dad was in hospital , had the surgery to walking me down the aisle and his birthday in November.  I'm glad I made it because everyone seemed to enjoy it. My grandma cried as did I when I was cutting out the pictures and reliving those tense moments.

Dads "rebirth@ party was so great! Deb really did a great job on planning it and thought of everything.  They had it catered from a good friend who does great BBQ. We had sausage, chicken and brisket with tons of sides. Buckets and coolers of drinks from beers to sodas and boxed wine which was quite tasty.  They hired this band that they had heard play several times at one of their favorite restaurants and so glad they did. It was 2 guys that looked like farmers right off a tractor but dang they could sing. The main vocal sounded just like Gordon Lightfoot and he played some of his songs. It was a great turnout and I would estimate that over a 100 people showed up. We had it down at dads mancave and had tables set up and even  porta-potties.
So my cousin Larry surprised daddy with the large Club Schmitz sign and it was so  awesome to have it. If you look closely, someone put dads picture over the Dos Equis poster stand.  Everyone posed in front and had pictures.

Deb and dad

The flash was crazy bright! And we were all squinting.

My hubby!

My girlfriend Wendy , T, and Di

My stepsister Rachelle flew in from Cali.

It was so great seeing friends and family come together to show love and support and friendship to Dad.  I think he had a good time and felt pretty special!

Yesterday , I drove to McGregor , TX that's just past Waco to support a friend of mine who is crazy talented. She is also a blogger at Redneck Chic.  She makes jewelry, shirts, purses, etc that has her fun flair and unique taste.  Robelyn sells on Etsy but she also has booths at 2 different antique stores around her area. She was having a special Pop-UP store sale and I thought it would be fun.  She made me the cutest Mr and Mrs pillowcases for my wedding gift and they match my bedroom decor. I need to take a picture for y'all.  I didn't take pictures of anything I bought come to think of it.  I purchased the cutest steering wheel cover this has blue pompom trim. I'm a sucker for pompom trim!  It was a nice antique store that went on forever. I also bought a footstool and an old vintage quilt that has 2 huge holes but I'm hoping   I can get patched.  The quilt was 20$ and so I couldn't pass it up.
The traffic was horrible coming home but when I did, Todd had dinner ready and a glass of wine poured. Ahh!
A lady in one of my Facebook online garage sales makes homemade tamales and she delivered 2 dozen last night.  We will be having those for dinner tonight and snacks this week.
So there is my long recap of my weekend.  Hope y'all have a blessed day!

In a fog

Its Thursday and I'm so glad the weekend is close by.  Saturday is going to be a wonderful day of celebration and I'll be at Dads one year anniversary ( new birthday) of his double lung transplant.
It's hard to think that this time last year, dads health was declining rapidly and was at our desperation stage of anything and a miracle.
This is Dad , a week after his surgery and eating a burger.  The guy next to him was the hospital priest and he's still in touch with us.  Having a burger was HUGE, the last few months leading to the surgery, dad couldn't eat because it literally wore him out.  He lost too much weight. It was awful to see him struggle.
And here is dad last week riding one of his horses. I tear up thinking how awesome this is.

I am currently on a medication that helps with the dizziness but I feel like a zombie. It makes me very tired and Todd said I look "checked out".  All I want to do is lay down.  Kinda hard to do when you're at the office.

Good news is that we're getting rain right now in Dallas and we so need it! Its bringing the temps down which I am happy about  it and our yard is getting watered.   Perfect napping weather.....

Have a great day y'all!

Something's gotta give

Hey y'all, happy Tuesday.  Hope everyone had a great weekend and your Monday was decent.  I am still having dizzy spells and actually look forward to my Drs appt today.   Yesterday when I woke up, I had a small headache and I had a bad dizzy spell just before I left the house.  I feel like it made my brain a little scrambled.  For lunch yesterday , I went to pick up something from Canes for both myself and my boss who had meetings and couldn't leave.  When I got to the window, I paid for the meals , got my change and our drinks and drove off. LEAVING the FOOD BEHIND!!!  What's worse is that I didn't even recognize this until I reached my last exit a block from the office. I had to turn around and go back and I said " yes this is the airhead that left her order".
On Saturday , Todd and I were going to our favorite Chinese restuarant in our old neighborhood.  We had started working on organizing the garage and so I was gross and sweaty.  After I showered I put on a new tshirt I bought from Old Navy and the tag was really scratchy.  Yes I know I seem like a 5 yr old but I hate tags! So I went to cut it out and proceeded to cut a fairly large hole in my new shirt that still had tags.  Luckily I have long hair and wore it anyways! Haha

The hole in the shirt was nothing compared to the doozy I let happen to my foot.  Earlier that morning ( Saturday) I got in a hurry while getting ready to meet friend for breakfast and I ran into my hat tree in our spare bedroom. As it was falling, instead of getting out of the way- I tried catching it and the heavy base landed right on my foot.  It cut my foot and swelled instantly.  It bruised up pretty  bad and boy did it hurt!
Here's a pic about a minute after it happened:
Here it is today , the swelling is down but more green and purple :

So needless to say, I should have worn a helmet and body armor and sat on couch  but who has time for that?
Good news is that after church on Sunday , we continued tackling the garage and we made room for Todd's car. His is newer and my truck is ok parked in the driveway.  The Harley has more space and Todd is a happy man!
Oh and I also read the whole book " Gone Girl" over the weekend.  It's going to be a movie and I wanted to read the book first. It was really good y'all!

I'm kinda rambling so I better end this post. Have an awesome day and I leave you with a song called Grace from one of my most fave singers Ed Kowalcyk.

My head is spinning

Hey y'all, I thought I would try to get a quick post out today. I really really love blogging believe it or not. I just haven't been feeling all that great.  I finally have a Dr's appointment for next Tuesday which is the earliest they could see me. Craziness I tell you! I have to see my primary though because i'm still  paying out the nose for my Doc in the Box visits in February for my asthma.  I feel like this year I officially started falling apart. I used to be the gal with perfect attendance in school, work, anywhere. I rarely got sick and let it get the best of me.  This getting old sucks!
I have people taking bets on what my current ailment is. Some say inner ear infection, Meniere's Disease, Vertigo, my migraines, one person even texted me asking if I was preggo. Um that would be NOOOO! My husband and I both have been fixed which is a whole other discussion.  I really don't know why I am having the dizzy spells but I wish they would leave.  As mentioned in Wednesday's post, I am going to Sturgis and I cant be dizzy and fall off the motorcycle!
I am feeling an improvement since Tuesday when all this mess hit me so I am grateful for that.

I keep thinking of this old song that I grew up with:

I feel like an "airhead" in every sense of the word. HAHA!  I am good as long as I don't have to bend over or make any sudden movements.  You know how hard that it when you work from home on Fridays and have  a precious puppy that wants all your attention?!
Have a great weekend and if you're in Dallas stay cool! Its going to be crazy Hot!

Thank goodness for Hodgepodge questions so I can do a quick post this week!

1. July is National Anti-Boredom Month. When was the last time you were bored? What's your go-to cure for boredom?  I stay constantly busy. I cant tell you the last time I’ve been bored.  I love to read, I’m still unpacking at the house, I can get on Pinterest on ipad and be lost for an hour.

2. What's the last thing you made a reservation for?  I made an airplane reservation flying into Rapid City, South Dakota for first week of August.

3. What's one thing on your summer 'bucket list'? Any plans to make it happen?  This ties into question #2- we are going to Sturgis! It’s been planned since last year and I cant believe its almost here. I am not allowed to take any vacation days off of July so i am flying in for the weekend. Todd and our group are riding the bikes there and back.  Its my second time to go but my first time to be there with Todd.

4. What's your favorite summertime sip? I love Arnold Palmers- sweet tea mixed with lemonade

5. What do you find is the best way to handle another person's hostility and hopefully ease the tension? Its best to just let them vent and get it out. Listen to them and see if there are valid points that you can agree on.  If its really out of control, just walk away.

6. Your favorite film set in summer?  I would say Grease.  The movie takes place at the end of the school year and summer is about to start.  I loved that movie!!  I also loved all the campy beach movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie .

7. What word are you using too much lately? Merger..    I’m constantly saying “due to the merger”, “because of the merger”,  “the merger”.    Cant help that my work life which is over half of time spent has drastically changed.

8. Insert your own random thought here.  I am working from home today and I am super sick. I got up for  work yesterday , drove to office, had some breakfast and then out of nowhere- I got so dizzy I couldn’t see. I got super nauseous and hot and my coworker drove me back home. I was too dizzy to drive.  I have had spinning spells today too and its awful.  My stomach hurts and head is dizzy and not sure whats wrong with me. I had to train a class earlier and man it was very hard to get through!  I don’t have  time to be sick and this bites.  I sound like a total downer today yall but I don’t get this sick too often.

Happy Independence Day!!

After a long exhausting week even though tomorrow is a holiday- I am so ready for it to be Friday!
Working through this merger, my team is not allowed to take any vacation days off at all the whole month of July. I will appreciate tomorrow a great deal!  We have a some dear friends who are having a party tomorrow night to celebrate one of them becoming a US citizen.  Mike (the husband of Caroline ) is originally from Canada and has completed all the courses, signed the forms, taken the oaths, etc and is an American as of just a few days ago. I think its great timing to celebrate his being a US of A citizen.   I hope we can see some fireworks from somewhere nearby.
I am super duper excited for a family party out at my uncles house in East Texas on Saturday.  My most awesomest ,lovely, bestie cousin Lauren is driving down from Georgia to see her new nephew ( my newest cousin) and the rest of the fam.  We are taking Jax too for his country adventure. I even bought him an Old Navy July 4th t-shirt for him to wear.  It will be nice to see Nanny again too since it's been 2 weeks.
Sunday we have some friends coming over for dinner after church so we have a pretty full weekend planned.  Please be careful out there and have tons of fun!
Remember the most important thing: we are free BECAUSE of the brave!

God Bless!

Destination: DALLAS, TEXAS

Hey y'all, my name is Holli and i'm excited to share a little about my hometown. Dallas is my home town and I am every bit a proud Texan!  Who else has America's Football team- the Dallas Cowboys? Famous for the best cheerleaders in the world who is seen on more calendars, and USO events.
We have the Texas Rangers , Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars so all sports is covered well.   Dallas has everything from amazing shopping ( the first and original Neiman Marcus is downtown) ,  to theatre, Arts, Concert venues, Museums, And we have Southfork of the famous TV show Dallas and Walker Texas Ranger was filmed here and the kids show Barney. True fact , my college buddy was Bebop.
Our Texas State Fair is in the heart of Dallas at our Cotton Bowl that features our Big Tex which is our 55 ft tall talking statue.  We also have one of the tallest Ferris Wheels in the world.
Of course we are not too proud of the fact that the Kennedy assassination put Dallas on the map in 1963 but it does get us visitors and exposure none the less.  AND Bonnie and Clyde were from Big D.   Dallas is just 2 hours south of Oklahoma border and you can be in Shreveport heading east in under 3 hours.  We have several lakes scattered around the metroplex but of course we need more rain because they're too low.  We have several Fortune 500 companies based in Dallas like Toyota, Texas Instruments, Exxon/Mobil, SouthWest Airlines, Chili's, Frito Lay, Dr Pepper  and more.
The Texas state motto is simply "Friendship" coming from a Caddo word  teyshas.  Dallas has a train/subway system and is very spread out but although we are a bustling city, we still have the downhome attitude and very friendly for the most part. We say Yes maam and sir to everyone , all ages.  I am not so friendly on the highways due to road rage though. HAHA!
Our music scene has people like Steve Miller, Stevie ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, and many more that have come from Dallas.
One thing I CANT mention is our most amazing selection of true Tex-Mex restaurant's and of course Bar-B-Q.  I can seriously eat Mexican food everyday and there are tons of choices all around me.  Dallas is very diverse and have a great Indian part of town, Chinese, Italian, you name it.   I was born here and have watched it grow and change over the years but some of my favorite bars and diners have still lasted.   When you come to visit me, you will most likely land in (DFW) Dallas-Ft Worth International airport which is centrally located between Dallas and Ft Worth.  You cant miss seeing the stockyards in Ft Worth and the daily cattle drive either. Now here's whats funny- I don't mind telling you to go visit Ft. Worth but you wont catch a native Ft Worth person encouraging you to come to Dallas. There is a deep rivalry and always will be.
I love that Dallas still has successful business men that really do wear Cowboy hats and boots with their suits. I wear my Cowboy boots all year long and wouldn't trade that for the world.  If you do come see me, wait until end of September where you wont feel like you've stepped off the plane into Sahara Desert.  I wont lie, it gets MISERABLY hot and its a good thing there's so many things to do indoors.
Come find me at my blog Holli's Hoots and Hollers
