My junkin' weekend

Last weekend I went to a junk show in Keller, TX hosted by Mistress of Junk.  I grabbed my brother-n-laws girlfriend Paula on the way there because they live a few minutes from where it was.  I was really excited about going because 2 of my most favorite junkers in the world were going to be there.  I've mentioned both of these ladies before on my blog because I do try to support them as best as I can , even if its just word of mouth.  Robelyn's business is Redneck Chic and Debbie's is Talking Trash.  They are both so crazy talented and can make the biggest heap of junk look like it came out of a magazine. 
The bad thing about this post is that I didn't take many pictures.  People are kinda funny anyway about taking pictures of their booths. Unfortunately, people go home and try to duplicate their work and then sell it as their own.   I bought a lot of stuff and Paula bought a few things so it was a success. It wasn't very big so it didn't take too long to go through all of it.  I bought a vintage metal reindeer to go in my front yard and an awesome wood Christmas tree. I will be stringing lights on them tomorrow.  There was a taco food truck and it was so yummy. Paula and I both shared some nachos with Carnitas and dang it was delicious.

After we left the Mistress of Junk show,  we stopped at a few thrift stores and some antique stores. 
We did really good at the thrift stores. Lots of stuff for just a few dollars.  Funny thing is that I bought a small antique Santa mug for 4 dollars. I already have a large one and so I wanted the little one to go with it.  I was happy of my purchase (and still am) but then I went to the thrift store and they had 2 of them and sold to me for .25 cents each.  SCORE!!!

Here are some pics of my Christmas decorations so far in my home using SOME of my great finds. I forgot to take pictures of everything in my great haul that day.  I bought some vintage bottle brush Christmas trees , a fake poinsettia arrangement in a cute red bucket, and few ornaments that aren't shown.

In the third square picture, My lovely friend made those JOY pillows. Arent they the cutest ever?!! I love them so much. Jax also photobombed my pic which makes it doubly cute.   Notice my 3 little Santa mugs?  The metal wine sign I bought last spring in Warrenton. I bought the reindeer doll from Hobby Lobby and the vintage plastic Merry Christmas piece came from a thrift store. The chalkboard stand was only 4 dollars at the thrift store.  One of my favorites is the Deer basket that also resembles the Loch Ness monster. We have named it the Christmas MonsDeer.   Those boxes of old vintage ornaments came from Woolco. Remember those?  I got them for 1.50 total.  I also bought 2 antlers at the junk show for 4$ a piece. I am going to be dipping the tips in paint and glitter for my table centerpiece.  The wood tree and deer are my favorites. I have 2 smaller deers that I bought off Craigslist and added them to the spot.
It was also the first time I spent all day with my future sister n law since she moved to Texas. We had such a great day and very similar tastes in the junk. She's a keeper!

Part 2 Antique Week- Warrenton/La Grange/Roundtop

I've been so crazy packing and working, my plan for breaking up my posts on antique week wasn't meant to be dragged on for so long ( like this sentence ). I still have to do one more post about it so I don't completely overwhelm with y'all pictures. It's just that I had so much fun and I was excited so I took tons of pics with my phone.

Warning now, lots and lots of pictures. It's funny that I've read on a few blogs that people don't like seeing tons of pictures. I on the other hand , LOVE seeing other peoples pictures.  Oh well, it's what's happening today! 

This was back porch of cabin where we stayed. I brought blow-up mattress and slept in the living room. 

Not something you see everyday in ones yard: very large gorilla that still had Mardi gras beads and mask.

First day there, I got a boot on my truck for parking. I was in the vendor lot where I was supposed to be but it was all word of mouth. One guy said park here and I'll tell so-and-so but then forgot to and then this. Mr.  So- and-so was super nice and removed it promptly once he knew who I was with.  My truck was jealous of me wearing boots everyday I guess.

Texas Antiques Week

I recently had one of the most AH.MAZ.ING experiences a few weeks ago in parts of Small-town Texas.  Round Top, Warrenton and La Grange to be exact.  I've known about this slice of Heaven for many years but never made it out for various reasons. As mentioned a few posts ago, I reached out to one of my fave bloggers Debbie (Talking Trash) who also is a longtime seasoned Junker who sets up every year at these shows. I volunteered my free labor while also learning the ropes and having her mentor me.  I am actively working on being a small time junker in the very near future and have lots to learn.

Debbie's daughter Jennifer happened to live very close to me so she rode with me to keep me company and she knew the way to get to our destination. It was a win/win! She met me fairly early on that Friday morning and we got there around 4.5 hrs later. Plenty of time to get to the booth and get used to the surroundings. 

It's hard to explain how excited I was to see rows among rows among rows of large circus tents of booths. It's a two week shindig and hosts over 60 "shows".  Each field has a name and thats the show. Example we were in Zapp Hall building and the field/land it's on is the Zapp show.  It had everything from genuine fine antiques , garage sale sorts and hand crafted pieces. Celebrities come out like Miranda Lambert, Mathew McConoughy, John Malkovic and more. Have you ever watched Junk Gypsy's on HGTV or GAC? Amie and Jolie are the main girls the show is centered around. Well this is their haven and they recently opened their new beautiful headquarters and shop down the road from the shows. 

We made a stop in to look around and to buy a souvenir. Fun fact , my friends Debbie , Jennifer and Debs husband Danny have known these girls forever before they made it big time. Every time Jolie saw them , she stopped to talk to them or hugged their neck. It was pretty cool!

Fashion and Flea

Good morning everyone - happy hump day! I've been meaning to let y'all know that I did actually get to meet Danielle Colby from American Pickers.  Some of you who follow my Instagram already knows this but I wanted to share today on blog. I will just say that she was the sweetest real person! I stood in line to meet her and she's just so gracious to everyone she met. They were selling small posters of her for you to get signed but (a) I didn't want to get out of line and (b) it was 15.00$.  I just had Todd take our picture and we spoke briefly. The first thing she said to me was that i had beautiful eyes and then she saw my hair and said it was gorgeous. How sweet was that!! Everyone is ooohing and aaahing over her and she gives the compliments. We were sort of in unofficial line because we had been waiting on her to arrive around noon and she didn't get there until one. Danielle was stopping by some booths and checking out people's stuff but she would pose for pics and so I thought why not now. She was scheduled for official meet and greet where she had her own table and you could hang with her at 2 but we wanted to get going.  I was very excited to have met her and she is too cute. We had a little chilly weather so she was hiding her tattoos but not on purpose.  Todd was funny and said "tell Frank he's cheap"! And she said I tell him that everyday.

I love the show and we DVR it so we can watch a few shows back to back in sequence. She is a huge part of the show. Come to find out, she and Mike were friends long before the show and it was his idea to hire her knowing she would be good on camera and with people. 

I always tell Todd that if I was a history teacher , I would totally show episodes of this because it's so educational ! I love that they post years , origin , and history on items they find. 

Speaking of vintage- check out this gorgeous gown. It was one of my favorite things I saw.  You can see back of dress in one of the pics with Danielle.
