Friday Five

Raise your hands in the air like you just don't care! Or if you're like Jax , raise your paws. It's  Friday and I'm soooo excited.  

My dad is now in the hospital but it's nothing way too serious or scary thank goodness!  He had a painful blood clot in his arm so they admitted him to put on IV and treat it slowly. He also has a bit of cold virus so they're monitoring that too. Dads in the best hospital in Dallas and I saw him last night after work. 

My mom woke up to this in her front yard. This is why she loves living in Montana sometimes. Sweet momma moose just hanging out. 

We have stupid neighbors in our apartment complex who for the second time, threw over their balcony a pot of greasy green beans and bacon.  Sooo do they not have a trash can or disposal like the rest of us?  Jax and other dogs have been going crazy around those spots and have eaten the beans before we could get to them.  We don't feed Jax people food and he was thinking that greasy beans and bacon was pretty dang  tasty. Yesterday Todd staged this funny picture of Jax with a can if green beans and texted it to me. Jax looks so serious with the can. lol 

We are checking out a rent house tonight in a neighborhood near my office and I'm very excited. I hope it's cute in person .

Lastly, I woke up again with another stupid aggravating no time for that sore throat.  I refuse to get sick y'all!

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

 1. The expression 'mad as a March hare' originated with a fictional character who is distracted and frantic. When were you last 'mad as a March hare' and what was it that made you that way? I would have to say week before last. My mom got rushed to the hospital where she lives in Montana and was in ICU. I totally freaked out and paced the floor for 2 days. Montana is so far away and I was just about to jump in my truck and drive there. Luckily, she started improving and was released soon after and she’s feeling much better now. 

 2. Mardi Gras this year falls on Tuesday, March 4th. Have you ever been to Mardi Gras, and if so what did you think? If not, do you have any interest in going? Purple, green, and gold are the colors of Mardi Gras. Which one is most prevalent in your wardrobe? How about in your home? I actually have been to Mardi Gras (twice). The first time I was on dance team in college and we were invited to dance in one of their big parades. It was so fun!! I think I have more gold in my wardrobe then green or purple. 

  3. Are you old fashioned? It depends on the situation. Most of the time I think I’m pretty old-fashioned when it comes to manners and stuff like that. No hats at the dinner table, say yes maam / no sir when talking to elders, hold doors for others. BUT I also ride a Harley, have tattoos, lived with my husband before we married, etc.

  4. Do you carefully plan your vacations, or do you prefer the days to be more spontaneous? Both. If its going to take airline tickets or long hotel stays, we have to plan within our budget. However, we can take spontaneous trips to Galveston or to Oklahoma and visit my brother and family, jump on Harley and go on loooooong day ride.

  5. March is National Sauce Month...what's your favorite sauce, and what do you most often top with this sauce? Oh I am a sauce girl! I love Alfredo sauce, I love mustard based BBQ sauce, I love spaghetti sauce. I have to say that hot sauce is my favorite with as much as I eat Mexican food.

  6. What's something that easily brings a tear to your eye? Homeless animals. I adopted my sweet baby Jax from a rescue group and I follow them on facebook. I swear I tear up once a day when I see sweet animals that need homes and have been found in poor condition. 

  7. If you could own any sports team, which one would it be and why? Dallas Cowboys!!!! I love my boys but dang I just feel that they will never be stars again while Jerry Jones owns them. He makes me so mad how he’s ruined what used to be a wonderful team. I will still always be a fan though.

  8. Insert your own random thought here. I spoke to my cousin/best friend this morning Lauren on my way to work and it was great way to start my day. I say I love you to my closest friends all the time. Its important!

Drunk Texas , Pink Pistol and oh yeah the Oscars

PSooooo, it's Monday and I can't complain because I got to work today from home in my pajamas.  Why was I home all day you ask? Because we flippin got another ice storm and rain yesterday and the temps dropped way below freezing. It's so crazy because it was literally 80 degrees in Saturday and I wore shorts and flip flops. I can't make this up peeps! 

Say what you want but it's inpossible to drive on ice and my city is nothing but bridges. My cute little red pickup truck is allergic to sliding on roads so I kept my happy butt at home. It's a blessing to be able to do that and who knows how long it will last once my huge merger happens. 

Saturday was a great day and Todd and I took Jax out to the country to visit my grandma. I try to visit once a month and take her to lunch and grocery shopping and get her out of the house for the day. 

We had lunch at one of our fave diners up the road from Nanny in little town called Lindale.  It's getting more popular because a gal named Miranda Lambert happens to be from there.  She had this cute old store on the corner that she sold  her wines and also tshirts and band stuff in it. I don't think business did as well as she hoped but she kept it open. In the meantime she opened a store in Oklahoma called the Pink Pistol.  Its done real well and so then she turned her Lindale store into the Pink Pistol.  I wanted to check it out.  It is so much more fun and colorful and she had tons of fun stuff. Miranda is a huge animal fan and does lots of fundraisers for dogs, etc.  I bought a tshirt where some proceeds went towards her animal cause.  She also had a small section that was all stuff from Junk Gypsy was so cool!  There was a skirt I wanted really really bad but I couldn't spend 109.00$.

Maybe one day.  I took a few pics of the store and a few of my fave things. 

That Indian head skirt was the one I wanted.  Nanny and Todd were very patient and waited for me outside while I checked out every corner. 

On our way home we stopped by and took the kids out for quick bite to eat. We grabbed some burritos and went to a park so Jax could walk around. Poor baby got bad car sick coming and going to Nannys and it makes me sad. I hope he grows out of it.  Jax loved hanging with my stepdaughter Ali.

I just have to say that this years Oscars was one of my favorites! I love Ellen and thought she did a great job as the host. She was so funny and only she could crash twitter with a group selfie. 

My man Matthew won and thanked God and his family very sincerely.  Lupita gave an amazing speech and looked gorgeous in her blue dress. 

Jared gave an emotional speech and dedicated his win to his mother who was also there with him along with his brother. 

Jared is a rock star in a band called Thirty seconds to Mars when he's not acting. He's crazy talented and I love that he won.  

Pink sang Somewhere over the Rainbow and killed it. She is incredible and looked beautiful! Bette Midler sand her song Wind beneath my wings after they did the memorial and she looked fantastic and sounded fantastic too.  All in all , it really was an entertaining evening and I enjoyed watching it more than I ever have in the past. Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hey ya’ll, I have so much to get caught up on and its been 2 weeks since I blogged last. I had to travel last week to Minnesota and was crazy busy so time just ran out. I’m linking up today over at From This Side of the Pond. She has weekly link up with questions or topics and then we all get to play along. I hope to post again very soon and fill you in on my trip last week. 

  1. What is something you'll never forget about the age you are right now? How precious life is and to be so grateful to have both parents and both grandmothers. I believe the older we get , we realize that our days are not to be taken for granted. My parents health situations have brought this to mind more and more.

  2. What's a household chore you've never done? How have you managed that??? Changed air filters. I have either lived in apartments where they did it for me or my husband does it. Lucky I guess.

  3. Does nature shape our personalities more than nurture? Explain? Hmmm. I would have to say both. I know a few people who were raised in a very warm and nurturing home but still ended up on wrong path, and also many people who had the odds stacked against them but pulled themselves out and changed their path to the right direction. Tough question for sure.

  4. Friday (February 28th) is 'Something on a Stick Day'. What's your favorite food eaten on a stick? I would say Fletchers Corndog from our Texas State Fair. 

  5. Which of your five senses do you treasure most, and why? I would have to say SIGHT. I cant imagine not being able to see the mountains, beach, my handsome husband, or my sweet puppy Jax. I say this but then I can almost cry at the thought of not HEARING music. Yikes another tough question.

  6. What's the best music, theatre, or sporting venue you've been to? What made it great? I love theatre and especially broadway musicals. Wicked is my most favorite musical and I’ve seen it multiple times in various cities. Then again I love concerts and my husband and I attend many concerts a year. Willie Nelson, The Cult, and Tool are a few of my fave concerts to date but its hard to decide. I’m basically not very decisive on most of the questions so far , huh!

  7. It's the last week of the month...in five words or less bid adieu to your February. “Three months until my birthday”. 

  8. Insert your own random thought here. I wish that I had more time to really dedicate to my blog and not let so much time go by between my posts. I love my blogging buddies and this community more than I ever expected to.

Love is in the air

Good morning y'all! Happy Wednesday / Hump day. It was a week ago today that I posted last but I just didn't feel like it. My husband and I are so generously sharing our colds back and forth with one another. I started feeling crappy again last Thursday and it was full force by Friday. We canceled our fun plan we had for the weekend and didn't leave the couch until Sunday morning for church. I'm finally feeling better enough that I'm not on tons  of cold meds just cough drops during the day. 

So we all know that this Friday is Valentines Day which is pretty cool that it starts the weekend off nice.  I've said it many times before, Todd and I are on somewhat tight budget right now. We are  actually still paying off some bills we acquired while paying for wedding plus we are seriously trying to save up to move into a house this summer. Moves are expensive with deposits and all else so every penny counts. To add to this, we are also planning a Harley trip to Sturgis with our riding group and so there ya go. Money money money!  Y'all might say- is the trip really necessary when you need money for other things.  The answer is absolutely!  Todd and I work very hard and have stressful jobs at times. Having a vacation or trip to release  some of that stress is crucial.  Todd usually goes on a few weekend rides with  his buds to Arkansas , Big Bend, or wherever a few times a year.  Sturgis will be THE trip for the group this year. I'll talk about Sturgis more as we get closer.  

Let's go back and talk about Valentines. It drives me crazy that so many restaurants come up with a set menu with fixed prices. This may sound bratty but I want what I want! Let me order what I want and I don't want to pay 10$ more just because it's valentines.  Luckily for Todd, I'm a serious cheap date. Todd is so awesome in fact that he truly doesn't mind celebrating Valentines.  I gave him stink eye yesterday and told him NOT to have flowers delivered to office. To me that seems expensive plus fortunately I get to work from home on Fridays so coworkers wouldn't see it anyway.  I suggested a package of tulips from local grocery store that are $7.99 and beautiful. 

I'm picky when it comes to chocolate so if he insists on buying some he can grab these from our nearby Walgreens. 

Millionaires are my favorite. I only like chocolate if it has something in it like nuts , peanut butter or cookies. 

We have this little dive taco shop down the street called El taco H and they are cheap and delicious! I would be so happy  to have dinner there and then maybe swing by DQ drive thru and get a blizzard.

That to me is a perfect evening! Now we will see what he has in store. 

I am excited that we our signed up for an iMarriage group class this Saturday at our church. It's an all day event that includes lunch and workbook and several couples are signed up.  I believe that any tips, encouragement , prayers and real expectations are needed for any marriage.  It was cool that Todd looked at me at same time I turned to him when our pastor mentioned the workshop.  Being in new marriage , I'm ready to learn.  Stay tuned and I'll let y'all know how it went next week!

Fashion and Flea

Good morning everyone - happy hump day! I've been meaning to let y'all know that I did actually get to meet Danielle Colby from American Pickers.  Some of you who follow my Instagram already knows this but I wanted to share today on blog. I will just say that she was the sweetest real person! I stood in line to meet her and she's just so gracious to everyone she met. They were selling small posters of her for you to get signed but (a) I didn't want to get out of line and (b) it was 15.00$.  I just had Todd take our picture and we spoke briefly. The first thing she said to me was that i had beautiful eyes and then she saw my hair and said it was gorgeous. How sweet was that!! Everyone is ooohing and aaahing over her and she gives the compliments. We were sort of in unofficial line because we had been waiting on her to arrive around noon and she didn't get there until one. Danielle was stopping by some booths and checking out people's stuff but she would pose for pics and so I thought why not now. She was scheduled for official meet and greet where she had her own table and you could hang with her at 2 but we wanted to get going.  I was very excited to have met her and she is too cute. We had a little chilly weather so she was hiding her tattoos but not on purpose.  Todd was funny and said "tell Frank he's cheap"! And she said I tell him that everyday.

I love the show and we DVR it so we can watch a few shows back to back in sequence. She is a huge part of the show. Come to find out, she and Mike were friends long before the show and it was his idea to hire her knowing she would be good on camera and with people. 

I always tell Todd that if I was a history teacher , I would totally show episodes of this because it's so educational ! I love that they post years , origin , and history on items they find. 

Speaking of vintage- check out this gorgeous gown. It was one of my favorite things I saw.  You can see back of dress in one of the pics with Danielle.

Not all was lost during Superbowl

So did all of you watch the Superbowl this past weekend? I know i have many friends that are not a football fan at all but I am from Texas where football is a religion. I am sad that football is over but good news is that the Olympics is starting this week. WOOHOO! 

At first I didnt really care about who won the game then I went towards Denver so that Peyton Manning could have a win. I must have jinxed them because man did they lose badly. We went to my Dad's house because he has a Mancave that has big TV and can accommodate tons of people. We had so much food and one of Dad's friends actually caters BBQ and he brought ribs, brisket, and sausage and man was it so tasty! I did good and didnt even have a glass of wine since I had to work yesterday but I did indulge in 2 jello shots. It got cold out there in mancave so i was hoping to get a little fire in my veins to warm me up. It did. For 5 minutes then cold again.

 I think I can speak for many and say that there were some pretty good commercials this year and were entertaining. I showed y'all the Budweiser one with puppy last week and it never gets old watching it. I wanted to do a recap of a few of my favorites. First of all i am so proud of the Cheerios marketing team that came back strong and had a second commercial with the precious Bi-racial family. I could NOT believe that the last one caused so much controversy and its shocking that people arent with us this century by now. 

I am a proud Texan girl who has a few friends who barrel-raced and i assisted them a few times in events many years ago, and i'm a pickup driving girl so the Chevy commercial touched my heart quite a bit. 

I love me some 80's yall so the Radio Shack commercial that brought back Alf, Mary Lou Retton and more made my day!

 I also love music down to my core so the one with Bob Dylan impressed me a lot. Whether you like his music or not, he's legendary to rock n roll and i respect that. His voice is like no other. Happy Tuesday everyone!!
