A love like Johnny and June

So yesterday I came across an article on the internet about love letters from famous people to their loves. One of them just really stuck with me because I am huge huge fan of Johnny Cash. He wrote the sweetest hand written letter to his 2nd wife June Carter Cash. This is a birthday letter to her written in 1994 which wasn't that long ago really.  It was voted by the BBC the most romantic love letter of all time.  Johnny died in 2003 soon after June passed.
With Valentines day this weekend- the love between the two of them are inspiring.

We get old and get use to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.
But once in awhile, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.

How sweet are they?!  Now I know that he was married when he met June (hence Ring of Fire) but he was so in love with June and his first wife also remarried and lived happily ever after.

      

Do you have any plans for Valentines Day? I am taking Friday off to get some stuff done and I will pick up something for Todd then.  I love being married and having a Valentine!

Enjoying the Ride

This is my second time I’ve written this post.  I wrote the whole post and at the very end I was adding a label before I saved and I misspelled something. I thought the cancel would take me back to post and instead wiped out the whole thing! So aggravating.

Last Sunday was such a beautiful and gorgeous day!! When Todd was coming home from playing drums in the second church service ( I went to the earlier one and came home after), he called me and asked if I would want to jump on the Harley and have lunch down at Strokers.  Its unusual to have a wonderful day in February so I agreed immediately.  My back was kinda sore but what’s new? I live with chronic back pain everyday.   We have friends in Boston and Chicago that were being hammered with snow and here we were wearing short sleeves and riding the Harley.  When we got there we ordered lunch and then while it was cooking we went inside the store to see if they had a part that Todd needs for our bike. They didn’t have the part but we saw some cute stuff. I was good and didn’t buy anything because I was still happy from my thrifting score the day  before.

On the way home we went over some bad bumps that really jarred my back and it actually brought me to tears by the time I got home. I was in so much pain and I rarely if ever take pain meds.  I finally couldn’t take the pain anymore and I found one of my old strong pain pills that was a couple years old.  I took it and then went to bed. I was feeling nauseous throughout the night but nothing too bad but I decided to work from home which was a good decision.  By noon, I had to take the rest of the day off and I was so so sick.  I have no idea if it was the medicine I took because I am a lightweight to most drugs or if I actually had some kind of stomach virus. Either way it wasn’t good.  I worked from home yesterday as well but was feeling better by end of day. I’m back to office today but stomach is still queasy.  Not sure whats wrong but I’m so busy and I have to travel next week.

Did I also mention that we have Bob Seger concert tickets tomorrow night? I am so excited to see him again. I first saw him in 96 in Kansas City. That was a long time ago! Todd bought the tickets for Christmas and I bought is Willie Nelson tickets for Christmas but that’s not until April.

Fun day thrifting and family time

Saturday I drove out to visit my grandmother "Nanny" to spend the day with her. She's 87 years old and lives out in East Texas 2 hours one way. I try to see her once a month if I can.  We had the most gorgeous day weather wise- sunny at 70 degrees but just a little windy.  When I got there, I had a pleasant surprise because my younger cousin Shane was there with his wife Reagan and their cute baby Gunner.  Next month Gunner will be a year old next month. How did that happen?

Nanny made us biscuits and gravy, and bacon and eggs for breakfast and it was so good. I was just so focused on getting  there that I didn't stop for breakfast so I was very grateful. 

I really love watching Nanny play with Gunner. She's such an amazing grandmother and great grandmother.  She is so loving and fun! 

We got to visit with the cousins for a few hours and then Nanny set out to run some errands and take a drive .  I always like getting Nanny out of the house when I can. She was feeling better too so she was feeling adventurous. 

After picking up her prescriptions and picking up some curtains rods and miscellaneous stuff, we went to one of my favorite thrift stores.  The thrift store is kinda junky and had zero curb appeal but I have found such great stuff there! Nanny found a nice red blazer that was brand new with tags still on it. How much? Only one dollar!! All clothes were a dollar and I bought 2 shirts to cut up and use for a birthday banner I'm making.  I get my best fabric from buying clothes at thrift stores. 

I had seen a cute idea from a craft magazine where someone used cute state ( destination ) plates for dining.  They were great to use when you have guests over. I didn't notice until I got home that a few of them said Not for food use but oh well. I bought 17 plates. Lol!! I wasn't intending to buy so many but the guy who ran the store said he was going to give me a great bundle price.  Boy did he give me great price! 

  I found a really cute purse that looked very vintage and has suede pieces on the front.  I also found a Texas wooden photo frame and an old Better Homes and Garden book in decorating from 1975. 

The plates, book, shirts, frame , a sign I found for a friend, belt and purse - he only charged me 15$. I couldn't believe it!!  Nanny got the blazer , a small digital clock and a cute fabric baby book all for 3$. We had so much fun. 

I did stop at a garage sale just before I got to Nanny's and got some great deals there. Crazy but I bought another rolling cart. I already own 5 but it's vintage and he sold to me for 15$. I also bought 4 candle holders. 2 from the garage sale and 2 from the thrift shop.  I bought a black patent purse and 2 vintage pillow cases and 3 pretty dessert plates.  The little old guy having the sale also gave me  a bundle price at 20$ for everything.  I love all my treasures and had so much fun spending time with family.  Todd wasn't feeling well and wanted to state home and rest.  I wished he went but he was happy when I got home because Nanny set me home with a pot of homemade red beans and package of cornbread and a rum cake.  Nanny thought Todd was coming and he loves her beans so she made him some. 

We finished the day by driving to next town over Mineola and getting a vanilla coke at Dairy Queen.  Perfect day!!

Did I mention that I actually am signed up to blog every single day except Sunday's for the month of April? Yep true story. I've never done this challenge before and I have strong hopes of completing it.

Fun night at Top Golf

I've been so swamped at work that I'm a week behind posting in some things. Last Saturday night, Todd and I took a very close and dear friend out for some fun. She's going through a rough time right now with her husband being ill. She said she needed to get out with some friends and laugh a little. We were so happy to be able to help in any way!

Our friend lives in The Colony which also happens to be where we all go to church and its maybe 15 minutes up the road from where we live.  Top golf is a chain and they recently opened in TC a year ago.  We all had lunch there a few months ago after church one day but we didn't play golf.  I was looking forward to a time we could play and hang out. 

We picked up our friend a few minutes before six and got there soon after. It was packed!!!! It was raining pretty hard and was going to continue to rain all night. Top golf is mostly indoors and covered so its a great time to be there. I spoke to one of the waitresses and she said they do their best business when it rains. Totally makes sense because you can have a great time with friends and family indoors. The place is divided into 3 different floors and we got the first floor. The entrance of building and the bar is on the second floor.  There was also a few pool tables and huge TVs to play video games. Some girls were playing the  dance off games and it was fun watching them.

When you go to play for the first time, you have to get a membership card. It's linked to your email address and you'll get a card with your name printed on in within seconds.  You have to use this card when you choose which games to play and swipe it for your name to appear on the board.  

We had to wait for a game booth so we ate dinner at the bar. You'll also have an waiter once you get to your booth. 

We ordered a bunch of appetizers for our meal and the food was great! I recommend the Asian chicken wings. Yummy! I ordered donut holes for dessert  when we were at our booth and yall- they were awesome!! You get to choose 2 out of their 3 flavors to inject in your donut holes. I chose Bavarian creme and chocolate syrup. The other one was a raspberry flavor.  Out comes this ginormous plastic syringe of each flavor and you poke the donut hole with it and push the sauce inside. What what?!?!

To die for!!

I am awful at golf!! It wasn't until our very last game that I actually started to hit the balls and score points. My friend wasn't much better but she beat me at the end. Todd of course played well and so he didn't count. Lol!! Just kidding but it was like he was playing against himself between us girls. Todd tried helping me with my swing and sometimes it worked. Lol! I played terribly but I had SO MUCH FUN and more importantly so did my friend. They play great music overhead and we danced and sang and had a blast.  At times if you  were up to swing, the rain would come in sideways and you could feel a little of the mist but it didn't matter.
 

Nights like that are priceless and I can't wait to do it again.

I am a music fanatic and haven't posted a song hear in a while.  As I was watching the finale to Parenthood last week, a wonderful song was playing as Sarah started walking down the aisle and other scenes were playing out. I have the  Shazam app on my phone and so I shazamed the song to find out who or what band was singing and the name of the song.  I thought I had heard it before and sure enough its called Forever Young.  This version is sung by Rhiannon Giddons and Iron and Wine.

 Its so great!!  Ironically , this song also happened to be on a episode of my other favorite Tv show that ended for good this year  Sons of Anarchy.  This version is sung by Audra Mae and the Forest Rangers. I really love both versions and they're so different from each other.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Do you wear your heart on your sleeve, or keep your emotions tucked in tight? Most of the time on my sleeve. I think with certain people or situations I can hold it in tight though.

2. How did you meet your closest friend? Hard question but I have a few closest friends. Kimi and I met in high school, Diana and I met in the early 90’s and she worked at a boutique. I was looking for a black blazer to wear on job interviews and I told her that. I was hired the next day and worked with her for years.  I am very close with a few of my cousins and they are also my best friends.

3.  Pink lemonade, grilled salmon, cotton candy, pink grapefruit, a strawberry milkshake, or raspberry sorbet...of the pink foods listed, which one is your favorite? Least favorite? Which one have you most recently consumed? It’s a toss between pink lemonade and strawberry milkshake. Both sound delicious right now! I am not a fan at all of salmon or grapefruit. When I was a kid, cotton candy was my all time favorite.  I will share one of my most embarrassing stories about myself: when I was maybe 5 or 6, I went to the state fair with my aunt and cousins. I really wanted some cotton candy but didn’t know what it was called .  I also at that time could not pronounce words with the letter ‘S”.  I wore hocks and hoos ( socks and shoes) then. Soooo I asked my aunt for some Pink hair on a dick( aka Stick).   It was all very innocent but that’s one that my family doesn’t let me live down.

4. When were you last 'tickled pink' over something? Explain.  My husband and I had date night last Friday night. We went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants in our old neighborhood and it was so delicious. Afterwards, we went to the Harley shop that was close by and was about to close in another hour. I sat on one of their new 2015 freecyle trikes and it felt good.  Like really really comfortable! I was tickled pink that it was a smaller bike that I know I can maneuver easily.  I didn’t have time to do the test drive though.

5. Are you a fan of television talk shows? Daytime, nighttime, or both? What's your favorite? I love Ellen. I tape her show because I work full time in an office . I also tape Jimmy Fallon because he's on too late but he has the best time with his guests.

6. When was the last time you wanted to ask a question, but felt too foolish to do so? Every day. My work merger has me scratching my head everyday and sometimes I don’t even know how to ask the questions.

7. My favorite __________________right now is _________________.  Snack right now is Bare chocolate bliss crunchy coconut chips.  SOOO good!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  My mom was supposed to have gall bladder surgery this morning but when she got to hospital, her potassium was too low and they admitted her. She’s been super sick and cant keep anything down. I hate that she live in Montana at times like this. She’s way too far. If you pray- I would appreciate prayers for her.

Add another one to my collection

I have a crazy obsession with bird cages. I love them. I have quite a few ahem too many but I just can't stop. Last weekend I was coming home from church and right in the corner was a garage sale and the first thing I saw- a birdcage.  I made a quick u-turn and stopped to check it out. 

I actually have been pretty good and didn't buy one last year. That was my reasoning that I should buy this one.  They started off high and was asking 25 then went down to 15 but I really did only have a 10$ bill with me and there's a big crack in the bottom.  So I ended up only paying the 10$.  It's not vintage at least I don't think so. It does have a vintage 70's look with the plastic.  I love the design in the frame which is hard to see by this picture. 

Right now it's on the back porch and its a hanging birdcage so I need to find the right place to hang it. I'm deciding what color I'll be spray painting it. The funny thing is that I don't have birds - I just like the cages.  I should do a post with all the ones I have in my house.
